Thank you, John, for your comment. I have yet to read “Refuge” as my own downwinder cancer is still quite close. My kids have read it, but it sits on my shelf awaiting the courage that has yet eluded me.

Your comment shows how well-studied you are in the works of these marvelous people. I am reassured that there are so many strong, wise and courageous people doing good and though I may be yet a student, young in these studies (not so young in years), my desire is strong to do more than “merely one thing.”

I know & love Terry Tempest Williams’ book “Refuge.” And how long has it been since I’ve thought about Gregory Bateson?–I can reach up and pull “Steps to an Ecology of Mind” from my shelf right now. On this beautiful March night, let me make it a trilogy. Garrett Hardin’s “The Voyage of the Spaceship Beagle” and his maxim of ecology: “We can never do merely one thing.”

If people realized that it has exactly the effect that you say — takes away or cancels our votes — maybe, just maybe they would demand better from politicians. The people in office have such a well-oiled machine working for them though that there’s no way, without a MAJOR citizen’s movement (e.g. OWS and more) demanding change that anything will happen. Makes me sick.

That’s why these people should not be earning any other money or excepting gifts from anybody, end of conversation, period. They should also not be allowed to hold stocks of any kind or put them in their husband’s/wife’s or child’s name or grandchild’s name in order to try to put over on the system.
These people get paid enough! They don’t need to go throwing MY voice away because someone paid or gifted them to do it!
